 You can set your Android phone or tablet to prevent others from using it if the device is reset to factory settings without permission. For example, if a protected device has been stolen and deleted, only people who know your Google Account or screen lock can use it.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.1 and later. Learn how to check Android version.
Set up device protection
To help prevent others from using or deleting device data, set the screen lock. To help prevent others from using your device if it's removed, add a Google Account to your device.

If you need to reset the device to factory settings


Disable device protection
To turn off device protection, delete the Google Account from the device. Learn how to delete an account.

If Developer options are enabled, you can also disable device protection from the Settings Settings app on your device. Tap Next developer options Open OEM key.

You must verify ownership after resetting to factory settings
To return a factory-protected device, you must either unlock the screen or enter your Google Account password. This ensures that you or a trusted person who resets.

You must either unlock the screen or enter your Google Account information if:

Delete device data using the Settings Settings app.
You will be asked to enter a screen lock before using the Reset feature.
Reset the device using the keypad.
If you reset the device using the button ("Recovery mode"), you need to enter a PIN, password, or pattern. You'll also see the option to use the Google Account on the device before resetting.
Resetting the device remotely by Find My Device.
If you reset your device remotely using Find My Devices, you must enter the Google username and password associated with the device.
Important: You can login with a Google Account that was previously added and synced to the device as an account or user, but not as a guest. If you can not provide this information during the setup process, you can not use the device at all after resetting it to factory settings.
