The wireless transmission of electricity has been a project that has taken the sleep of several engineers for a long time. More than a hundred years ago, Nikola Tesla spent a fortune trying to build a device to transmit electricity over long distances.

However, today, in a world full of smart phones, laptops and other devices that require frequent charging, that dream has not yet materialized. Although there are supposedly wireless charging systems, without the need for cables, such as Qi offers, you still need to place your device on a charging platform if you really want it to have a battery, which makes it not really a device fully wireless charging.

However, recently, a company called Ossia announced the launch of a cargo product finally without cables or platforms, which comes to revolutionize the life of technological devices. Ossia's CEO, Mario Obeidat, was sharing on our Digital Trends booth at CES 2018, all the details about this new device called "Forever Battery", which he has described as a revolutionary version of an old design.

Forever Battery comes in AA format and houses electronic components, including an antenna, inside its shell. The Cota de Ossia system uses a transmitter that sends electricity through direct paths through the air to the battery antenna, charging it from distances of up to 30 feet, without seeing a cable between them.

"Think of a Wi-Fi network," said Obeidat. "Just like you have a device for Wi-Fi at home, you can have a Cota transmitter. This transmitter is capable of acting even in low power devices, such as those with AA battery, since, within them, there are electronic components that communicate and receive energy from the transmitter. "The Cota system will be responsible for transmitting the power only through the unoccupied space; so if, for example, a person were to cross the road, Cota would tilt the beam to avoid them.

Obeidat explained that users can have the battery in a variety of devices and all can receive energy without problems, as is the case with smoke detectors or remote controls. He also emphasized that Forever Battery's AA form factor is only the beginning, as they believe that they could soon expand their battery technology for smartphones.

If this were to happen, surely large smartphone manufacturers could partner with Ossia to integrate Cota into their batteries and the dream of many smartphone users who want to charge their batteries from anywhere would become a reality.

Ossia's technology is so radical that it has won the CES Innovation Award for three consecutive years. However, although they have been quite innovative, we can not expect Cota to replace power lines as the arteries of modern civilization. At least not for now! Recall that, at this time, Cota only focuses on low power devices.

Even so, if Ossia's technology were to work, it would be very convenient not only for consumers of electronic products, but also to preserve the environment, since we would stop using so many batteries.
